Dear Fraternal Family –
Were you aware that due to a dangerous home environment, more than 100 women per month in our community must literally flee their homes (often with their children) with just the clothes they are wearing and whatever money and personal items they can grab. The City of Peoria Crisis Center is a part of Operation Care Ministry, which directly supports these women and children by providing shelter, food and clothing.
Peoria Chapter #59, Order of the Eastern Star, is very much involved with the Peoria Crisis Center, providing the Center with clothing on an ongoing basis as well as personal care bags that contain small toiletry items to help these ladies through those initial unsettling days at the Center.
Additionally, the Worthy Grand Matron of Arizona has chosen for her project this year The Linus Project. To quote a part of the mission of Project Linus: "…to provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of new, handmade blankets and afghans, lovingly created by volunteer "blanketeers." You can find more information at www.projectlinus.org.
How You Can Help
We are asking our extended Masonic Family to participate with Peoria Chapter in our effort to provide for the care, love and support of our local women and children in the following manner:
* Donate clean new or good used clothing of all types and sizes for both women and children
* Donate good clean children's blankets and afghans
* Save and donate the toiletry items from the hotels you use while traveling
* Donate dollars directly to Peoria Chapter to be used either for the purchase of the personal care bags or the blankets
Your points of contact are:
Lynn Albert, PM; Chair of the Crisis Center Project (602) 569-8651
Nancy Rodger, PM; Chair of the Linus Project (602) 993-0140
Leian Faulkner, Worthy Matron (480) 563-3097
Paul Zimmerman, Worthy Patron (623) 934-6777
Thanks so much in advance for your participation and support of these worthwhile projects.
