Peoria #31 Dress Code

As we bring in new Brethren, the question is sometimes asked, “What should I wear?” Back east many Lodges are a bit more formal and require at least a suit. Arizona and the southwest in general are a bit more casual than the rest of the country but we should still dress with intent when coming to Lodge. During the winter months the Officers are dressed in Tuxedos. During the hot months light colored button up shirts and ties with dark slacks are their ‘Summer Uniform'. The sideliners dress code seems to be a bit more mysterious. Is it a Masonic secret? Are we violating our bylaws by informing new Brethren on what they should wear? Well, it is no secret, but at times it seems to be. So here it is: Collared shirts, long pants and no flip flops.

Printed shirts that make their wearer a walking billboard for something are distracting and should be avoided. If your work is a bit messy, be courteous to the Lodge and the Brethren by cleaning up a bit prior to coming. You do not have to wear your ‘Sunday best' but clothing should be clean and in good shape. The best guide I can think of is to wear what you would typically wear to a job in an office on casual Friday. You can always dress more formally than this, but that is up to you. When in doubt it is always better to be over dressed than not. I hope this helps shed some light on the subject.
